TiiCKER’s Sweet 16 CEOs Competition and Sweepstakes, a contest that pits CEOs – representing both their alma maters and the publicly traded companies they lead – against each other while offering chances to win valuable prizes, pits a leading big-box retailer against a century-old multinational energy giant.
In this first-round contest, an executive chairman of an American discount store chain faces off against the CEO of a global energy concern. Bob Sasser, former CEO and current Executive Chairman of Dollar Tree Inc. (Tii:DLTR), will stand in for the retailer and the Florida State Seminoles against Michael Wirth, Chairman and CEO of Chevron Corp. (Tii:CVX), a native of the Centennial State and graduate of the University of Colorado.
Sasser previously held several other leadership positions at Dollar Tree, including CEO, President, and Chief Operating Officer. As Executive Chairman, the company’s board benefits from Sasser’s 46 years of discount retail leadership experience across all corporate and field operations, including merchandising, marketing, sales promotion, advertising, branding, and customer engagement. He brings to the board expertise in merchandising, global sourcing, supply chain, buying, allocation and replenishment, real estate and retail technology. Sasser graduated with a BS in Marketing from Florida State.
A Chevron veteran, Wirth began his career with the company in 1982 after earning his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering that same year from the University of Colorado. Before assuming the Chairman and CEO position in 2018, he served as vice chairman of the board and executive vice president of Midstream & Development for Chevron Corporation. In that role, he was responsible for supply and trading, shipping, pipeline and power operating units, as well as corporate strategy; business development; and policy, government and public affairs. Wirth joined Chevron in 1982 as a design engineer.
